When it comes to remote camping as well as camping with two dogs, National Parks are not our best friend. However, under National Parks and/or BLM management are many other areas of land such as National Recreation Areas that have less rules, less crowds and just as much beauty as our National Parks. Right next door to Canyonlands National Park is Canyon Rims National Recreation Area. This past Thanksgiving, on our way to Arizona, we spent one night on the canyon’s edge. The color that painted the canyon walls at sunrise and sunset was breathtaking. With miles upon miles of roads to be explored both in and above the canyons, we can’t wait to go back.
Hi, love these pics and this location you found! I know it was 7 years ago, but curious if you remember where this site was? I’m guessing you were off Utah Highway 133 (the road that heads west off main Highway 191) on the way to the Needles Overlook, but if you have any specifics I’d appreciate it–hard to tell from maps on exactly what sections of that road dispersed camping is allowed. We’re headed to that area to get away from our home-based social distancing to do it in the beauty of the desert for a few days! Thanks!
