La Paz to a playa way past Tecolote //
Our one night at Campestre Maranatha served its purpose. Our laundry got done, I took advantage of the ability to work out on a hard, concrete surface, and this morning’s shower was piping hot. In other words, we got our $27 worth.
We’re now two days away from our long-anticipated ferry ride from La Paz to Mazatlan. Our goal for the day is to find a place to camp that will give us the best shot of avoiding the loud and all-night parties bound to take place on New Year’s Eve. In hindsight, we probably shouldn’t have booked our ferry ride for January 1st. If it wasn’t for that we wouldn’t be anywhere near the large city of La Paz during a holiday.
Fifteen minutes from the ferry terminal is one of the areas’s most popular beaches for overnight camping, Playa Tecolote. Knowing there is a dirt road that goes past Tecolote and continues on around the coastline, we head that way. After an hour of scouting out various options we come upon a section of coastline that looks promising. With no one around and far less trash than Tecolote, we decide that this will be our best bet for a restful New Year’s Eve. However, this is Mexico and what is peaceful one moment could turn in to a full-blown fiesta the next.
We don’t see anyone for the remainder of the day and try not to get our hopes up that we’ve chosen a good spot to hideout for the holiday.
…
I hope you had a quiet night!
