Punta Ballena //
The sky is soft shades of blue and pink this morning. The sea is calm and the natural reaction is to pull up a chair and stare off into the vastness of it all. A few minutes after I get cozy with a blanket wrapped around my legs and hot cup of tea in my hands, a pod of dolphins gracefully passes by a stone’s throw from where I’m sitting. Behind them in the distance, rays start jumping out of the water. Is there anywhere in the world more peaceful or awe-inspiring to wake up to in the morning?
Josh sets out to retrieve his trail cam this morning, he’d left it a short ways down the beach tucked up against the cliff’s edge yesterday. He returns empty-handed and a bit miffed. It’s not where he left it. Being that there’s no sign of humans around here and loads of animal tracks, the only logical answer is that some four-legged creature ran off with it. This mystery inspires several long walks down the beach and hikes into the desert throughout the day. All to no avail. We so badly want to see the footage of this four-legged thief. Josh’s best guess is that either a coyote or ring-tailed cat is the new owner of said trail cam.
Mark and I both log a few hours of work at our laptops today. I set an alarm for every hour to remind me to take a break, go outside, and enjoy where we are. It’s all too easy to be completely removed from your environment when interacting with technology. In that time Josh spears a fish that becomes dinner. We’re all starting to run low on food but one fresh-caught fish is enough to turn a basic meal into a satiating dish.
During dinner we confirm our plan to get back on the road tomorrow. With high winds in the forecast this place will no longer feel like paradise. I’m so glad we got to enjoy it while we did.
I love all the different shells collected! I would have to do that everyday!
